The City of Detroit has announced plans to close 77 city parks this summer in an effort to cut costs.
Mayor Dave Bing has pushed the plan as part of his effort to reduce city costs, but city council members are still hoping to come to a compromise to save some of the parks.
"The closures are fewer than the 140 parks he first estimated would be affected after the council cut $9.2 million from the General Services Department, which maintains city parks.
The cuts are part of $31.8 million the council trimmed from the mayor's $3.1-billion budget proposal."
