A 20-stool burger stand in Los Angeles could be eligible for historic preservation status, much to the dismay of the city's Community Redevelopment Agency that shelled out over $5million for the surrounding land.
Much of the protest is focused on the potential developer of the land, a company that is known for operating out-of-state soundstages. Local Hollywood workers aren't happy to see the CDA giving Pacific Ventures (the company) a significant deal on the land, so the burger stand has become a wedge they can use to try to stop the deal.
A local historian does say, in fact, that the burger joint is "a rare fairly intact example of a post- World War II roadside diner."
The CDA believes that they are working to revitalize a neglected part of Hollywood - Pacific Ventures is proposing a $57 million, eight-story building on the site.
