Building on the urban renaissance of the last decade that saw residential population increase for the first time since 1950, the City of Columbus has set a bold vision for the future with the adoption of the 2010 Downtown Columbus Strategic Plan.
Following an extensive public process that generated a road map to guide the continued revitalization of downtown, the Columbus City Council approved the 2010 Downtown Columbus Strategic Plan on July 19.
Among the plan's highlights are the removal of low-head dams along the Scioto and Olentangy Rivers to create a 16.5 mile natural river corridor linking two Metro Parks, right-sizing and redesigning downtown's two most prominent streets, improving downtown transit operations and options, and identifying opportunities for new sustainable infill development. With the public process complete, attention now turns to implementation and identifying the public/private partnerships that will help turn the plan's ideas into reality.
