Activists in Brazil took advantage of their country's fascination with the World Cup to take to the empty streets and paint messages encouraging safer use of the roads.

The City Fix takes a look at the urban intervention, and the problems of dangerous traffic in Sao Paulo.

"During the Brazil-North Korea match, for instance, activists went to the University City neighborhood and painted a crosswalk, a bike crossing lane, and a giant warning message on the street before the crosswalk, saying 'Lives: Go Slowly.'

The Brazil-Ivory Coast match brought a new bike lane to Dr. Hugo Beolchi Avenue in the Jabaquara neighborhood.

And while Brazil played Holland, the intersection of dos Pinheiros Street and Mateus Grou Street was transformed with a giant zebra-style crosswalk complete with messages like 'Game of Life.'"
