The city of Lincoln, Nebraska, is asking locals to submit and vote on ideas to integrate into its new master plan, hoping to get citizens more involved in the process and test out unconventional ideas.
The website asks locals to submit their ideas for improving the city, and allows others to help decide which ideas should become part of the city's30-year master plan.
"Since late July, the website has been accepting ideas on five topics ranging from 'getting around' to 'beautiful places.'
The city is using an Omaha company's web application for free, as a beta test, to solicit public input through this 'visionary brainstorming exercise,' according to Nicole Fleck-Tooze, long-range planning manager.
'It was a way for us to ask people to tap into their creative ideas about Lincoln and Lancaster County about 30 years into the future,' Fleck-Tooze said. 'No idea is too big or too wild, and everything's on the table.'"
