Most crosswalks are straight lines, but many people walk across streets in an arc. One designer has proposed changing the way crosswalks are painted to improve pedestrian safety.
"Korean designer Jae Min Lim has the clever idea to turn crosswalks into, well, 'J's. By curving the typical Zebra crossing to take up a wider swath of road, you carve out a nice, safe path for pedestrians -- one that reflects how they actually walk."
Fast Co. Design has renderings of the proposed design, and looks at how actual walking patterns of city dwellers influenced the designer.
