With more than 750,00 people expected to add on to the city's population over the next 30 years, officials and locals in Austin are trying to map out how the city should grow and change to handle the influx.
Officials are working to write a 30-year comprehensive plan for a city that wants to grow its business base but also retain its small-town feel.
"Of overriding concern is how Austin will cope with the 750,000 new residents - essentially, another Austin's worth of people - that city planners expect to arrive over the next 30 years. Unlike the last such plan, this one would be supported by government directives intended to make sure its decisions are not ignored.
'A comprehensive plan is just a series of choices,' said Larry Schooler , a city spokesman helping coordinate the effort. 'And we're facing some big choices.'"
