An ambitious eco-city is going up in Portugal, complete with a central "brain" that monitors feedback on water, energy and transport systems.
"PlanIT Valley" is being built outside the city of Paredes, Portugal, and will have green roofs, renewable energy, and all the usual trappings of sustainability.
Helen Knight writes:
"Sensors in every building will measure occupancy, temperature, humidity and energy use. This information will be fed to a central 'brain'. along with information on energy production from photovoltaic devices and wind turbines, as well as water used and waste produced.
The brain can then use this information to control each aspect of the city."
