Feasibility studies underway in Abu Dhabi predict that a new light rail tram network could be operational by 2014.
"The tram network is expected to span around 340km in length, with an additional 20km operating system, and will be designed to complement the Abu Dhabi Metro. The cost of the tram network is likely to be around $14m per km, putting the estimated cost at just over $5bn, Uribe said."
Officials are exploring possible public-private partnerships to pursue the project.
