Retail Traffic Magazine reports that some developers who specialized in regional malls are moving over into developing outlet centers. Says an analyst, "The whole value concept is resonating right now."
Developers are glomming on to the fact that budget retailers are doing better in this climate than premium brand stores, and investing in outlet centers makes sense in that climate.
Elaine Misonzhnik talked with Lisa Quier Wagner, president of Quier Target Marking Inc., an affiliate of EWB Development LLC, an outlet center specialist:
"There are certainly enormous expanses of this country that have not even been touched by outlet center space," Wagner says. "The outlet industry is absolutely booming right now."
