Chevy, Ford, and Nissan are all debuting electric models over the next year, but are Americans ready? Eric Jaffe considers why not.
Though G.E. has ordered 25,000 new electric cars, widespread acceptance of the technology is anything but certain, writes Jaffe. He notes problems ranging from the daunting sticker price to simple human resistance to change. For the average consumer, lack of public infrastructure support may be the largest hinderance, says Jaffe:
"Far and away the biggest concern of potential electric buyers is range anxiety, or the fear of running out of power far from home. Public charging stations are few and far between at present."
