A group of citizens calling themselves Destination Bayfront have led the charge to turn their underused waterfront into a destination hotspot.
Project for Public Spaces (PPS), which did some work in Corpus Christi about 20 years ago, says that the main challenges of waterfront revitalization projects "...range from privatizing the waterfront with high rise residential or fortress type convention centers to planting swaths of green space that provide few opportunities for people to use them."
The grassroots group is using some of PPS's processes to guide their placemaking activities, which have drawn hundreds of residents:
"Ideas were as wide ranging as seawater slides off the jetty to farmers markets to boardwalks with local performers and artists."
