Shoer Roth says that the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area is the third worst in the nation for pedestrian accidents, with 329 pedestrian fatalities in the 2007-2008 period alone:
"The root of the problem is the unbridled sprawl of urban and suburban development that entailed the creation of an overly abundant space designed exclusively for speeding cars, while sidewalks, bicycle lanes and points of access to public transit were neglected."
Shoer Roth recommends that the state consider "complete streets" policies.
