n the West, where Hispanic influences are still prevalent, [Patio Houss] continue to be built. The courtyard type became popular in California in the 1920s, benefiting from the climate appropriate for outdoor living year round. The Los Angeles courtyard residential buildings built in this era are an excellent example. They have beautiful, interior gardens with fountains, fireplaces and balconies, evoking a Mediterranean fabrication.
