More details of the winning design are unveiled for the planned remodeling of the Gateway Arch Park in St. Louis, MO.
The ambitious $578 million project calls for completion by 2015, in time for the 50th anniversary celebration of the topping of the Arch. It would include a variety of new facilities, including additions to Kiener plaza, a "lid" stretched atop of Interstate 70, more natural landscaping with two additional ponds, an amphitheater, and even a gondola across the Mississippi River.
While the money has yet to be apportioned, funding seems likely to come from a mix between local, Federal, and private sources. The local foundation in charge of the project, CityArchRiver2015, chose the winning design by MVVA, a New York firm, in September, and would connect the park to Downtown St. Louis.
