Owners of a citrus grove near Hobe Sound, Florida want to create a new city, calling it a potential "job-oriented community."
The new city could support a 11,000 new jobs and would be oriented more as a future jobs center rather than housing, something that the State of Florida is wary of.
"Becker B-14 Groves of Vero Beach wants to develop 3.9 million square feet of research, office and educational space; a 650,000 square-foot town center and 4,300 houses in a stand-alone urban service district south of Bridge Road and west of Florida's Turnpike.
Construction on the Hobe Grove Development of Regional Impact would start in 2012 and be completed by 2031 under preliminary plans submitted last month to the state Department of Community Affairs.
But first the project must go through a lengthy review process involving county, regional and state officials."
