El Paso officials are working with consultants on envisioning a new master plan for the city, which could include turning an underused rail yards into a major park a la Millennium Park in Chicago.
Other parts of the vision include "a bustling Downtown, inviting neighborhoods that help people to connect, more diverse housing styles and a lesser need to drive across town."
Consultants Dover, Kohl & Partners have been collecting public comments, and report that El Paso residents would like to see more attractive neighborhoods:
"Most new housing subdivisions in El Paso feature high rock walls that deter neighbors from knowing each other, large garage doors at the front of a house and vehicles in front driveways.
People prefer the older housing styles seen in Central El Paso that feature large porches and a distinctive front entrance."
