Buffalo, NY transportation planners have begun a new feasibility study that could lead to the first extension of Metro Rail since its completion in 1985.
Robert J. McCarthy of the Buffalo News reports:
"The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority will work with the Greater Buffalo Regional Transportation Council, a transportation planning group, to begin the study's first phase, with the understanding it might be four to five years before construction could begin, according to NFTA Executive Director Kimberley A. Minkel. But she called the move "the very first step" in a process that appears to harbor a greater chance of expanding the system since the last time the idea was studied - and shelved - a decade ago."
