The San Francisco Bay Area has seen its smallest rate of growth in the state's history, according to data from the 2010 Census.
"The nine-county region reached a population of 7.15 million people, a growth rate of 5.4 percent since the last census in 2000. It was a big change from the 1990s, when the region grew by more than 12 percent.
The region added about 367,000 people in the last decade. Not since the 1930s has the Bay Area added so few people in a decade.
The region's third biggest city, Oakland, lost residents."
Some in the area worry that the slowing growth rate will affect the region's politics as congressional boundaries are redrawn.
