In Linthicum Heights, Maryland, a man was beaten in a robbery near the local transit station. Neighbors fear the light rail is a lightning rod for crime and want it closed.
No direct connection has been made between the transit and the crime: police have not said whether the two teenagers who committed the crime rode in on the light rail.
Still, Tim Pratt reports that "Hundreds of Linthicum residents have spent the last few weeks lobbying legislators and the state to close the station, but many riders say they are opposed to a possible shutdown."
The MTA has responded by increasing security patrols and adding 15 new cameras.
