In Delray Beach, FL, historic buildings were bulldozed without proper city permits.
"At least four historic buildings were razed in the past four years, possibly without proper city permits, raising concerns among preservationists that there's not enough being done to save older structures."Concern over historic preservation is largely concentrated on the West Settlers Historic District, an area steeped in history, where a group of blacks traveling from Florida's Panhandle between the late 1890's and 1940's decided to settle and farm. The buildings are not architecturally opulent. They stand out because they were the last of their kind in the city. The city's Community Redevelopment Agency is considering budgeting $50,000 a year staring next year to maintain and preserve buildings in this District, according to Diane Dominguez, the agency's executive director.
