Nine months after a horrendous traffic jam clogged a Chinese roadway for 62 miles outside Beijing for 9 whole days, area hospitals have seen a fivefold increase in births.
Motorists trapped in traffic for days on end seem to have found a way to pass the time. The mini baby boom is being blamed on what hospital director Li Zhijun is calling "the great congestion conception".
"These babies are a proud achievement for China, and represent the beauty our people found in those harrowing days on the highway last summer," a government spokesperson said. "We are confident that these children will grow up to endure their own multi-day traffic jams, and we can only hope they will do as their parents did and bravely push our great country towards a more prosperous and plentiful future."
