With the recent announcement that Detroit's population has declined nearly 25% over the last decade, the city has hired a public relations specialist who promptly denied any problems in the city, arguing that it is simply on a "people diet".
The population decline is being rebranded as an asset, not a liability for the shrinking city.
"Less is more," said the city's new director of public relations. "We're just cutting a little bit of the excess. Who doesn't want to lose a little weight? You might go jogging to lose your love handles, and we're just cutting down on empty human calories to lose a little population weight. Same difference."
According to the city, its people diet is expected to continue for an indefinite amount of time. Officials in the mayor's office strongly deny the city has "people anorexia".
