"The simplest and most cost-effective approach -- and the one most local schools choose -- is to limit access to the building, he said. And the most modern way to do that is through a controlled access system, like the ones that have been 'in police stations and high-security places for years now,' Marinace said.A secured access system uses a single entrance with an open front door and a locked interior door. Visitors enter the vestibule and use a telephone to speak to someone in the office who is behind a security window. If the staff member approves the visitor's presence, a button releases the lock on the interior door. (Staff members sometimes wear identification cards to speed up their entry.)"
