"One of the country's leading historic preservation groups slammed Virginia yesterday for failing to control sprawl and for allowing historic sites to be trampled by road construction and other development...State officials responded angrily to the report, saying it is based on inaccurate information gathered by fringe environmental interest groups and packaged under the National Trust moniker to give it legitimacy."
