"In 1997, when BART workers last walked, some companies rented buses or put key workers up in downtown hotels during the six-day strike. This time around, most company executives are still crossing their fingers in hopes that labor negotiators will reach a last-minute compromise." 335,000 people a day who normally rely on BART to commute to and from work. Without the trains running, the Bay Area's freeways are expected to grind to a halt, though some transit alternatives are being made available.
