Mayor Michael Bloomberg and NY's "Chief Digital Officer" Rachel Sterne presented plans to use enhance technology that connects citizens with their government.
Last July, Mayor Bloomberg launched a new initiative called NYC Digital with the goal "to create a healthier civil society and stronger democracy
through the use of technology that engages, serves, and connects New Yorkers." The first task of NYC Digital was to research and present a sort of State of the Digital Union for the city.
That report was released earlier this week: "Roadmap for the Digital City: Achieving New York City's Digital Future." The report looks at the number of visitors to nyc.gov, what they look for, and what browser they are using most (Internet Explorer, natch). It also outlines every digital initiative coming from city government, from Twitter feeds to blogs to Apps.
