Toronto's new Presto smartcard for transit riders may soon allow you to pay for your parking and a coffee as well, according to Gary McNeil, president of GO Transit.
The Toronto Transit Commission is expected to vote in favor of expanding the use of the smartcard tomorrow.
From the Toronto Star:
"McNeil pointed to Hong Kong's Octopus card as an example of the retail opportunities smart cards can provide that extend beyond transit fares.
'If you look at the Hong Kong experience it becomes a complete commercial experience it's not just a for-transit system. It actually allows you to buy coffee, donuts, newspapers ' said McNeil."
