This medical center land use transaction near Eugene is a perfect example of why it is easier to develop pastoral land.
PaceHealth hospital -- a nonprofit corporation -- plans to leave Eugene, Oregon, and build its new $350 million, state-of-the-art regional medical center on 75 pastoral acres known as RiverBend. The decision was made "when the Eugene City Council without warning voted to begin rezoning the north Eugene property to prevent a hospital from going there. The move was intended to send a clear signal that the council wanted PeaceHealth to keep Sacred Heart Medical Center near the city core - but it served to spur hospital officials to begin looking for other hospital sites."
