"Increasingly, Las Vegas is becoming Anytown, U.S.A.?albeit one where Siegfried and Roy are the city fathers. The fastest-growing region in the nation, Las Vegas and its suburbs doubled in population in the last decade. As the city spreads, it is increasingly possible to live and work in the expanding orbit of strip malls and Spanish-style housing tracts and almost never set foot in the neon nucleus. Talk to residents in the planned communities from Summerlin to Henderson, and many will tell you they go to the ?other? Vegas only when relatives visit. The city is trying to diversify its business base."
