Cut Here, Army Corps of Engineers

A dam near Ojai, California built in 1947 attracts almost unanimous disapproval. Getting the dam demolished though is a long and frustrating process, one an unknown graffiti artist commented on this week.

The graffiti depicts a dotted line with a scissors, the universal symbol for "Cut Here." Steve Chawkins at the Los Angeles Times reports that most everyone applauds the graffiti, as "an alliance of environmentalists, fishermen, surfers and officials from every level of government has called for demolishing the obsolete structure."

The day the graffiti appeared was the same day that officials and the Army Corps of Engineers were discussing a new plan to gradually take down the dam, which has held back steelhead trout and silt for rebuilding the region's beaches.
