One rider calls it "the worst transit system I have ever seen..." The Metropolitan Tulsa Transit Authority hopes to make it better with more regular buses and a rapid transit system.
Craig Ramsey of Tulsa World reports that the MTTA is working with regional planners to come up with ways to improve the system, including extending popular daytime routes into the evening and starting a rapid bus service pilot program. But standardizing transit arrival and departure times is highest on the list:
"Tulsa Transit once had standardized arrival and departure times systemwide, but cuts to the system led officials to modify the routes to serve as many people as possible..."
Bill Cartwright, general manager of Tulsa Transit, explains that one of the big problems is that transit offerings have decreased 30% since he started in 2000, and ridership has dipped along with the lack of service.
