Zoning administrator Ryan Smith digs into the recently released paperback of Donald Shoup's seminal book, and the newly updated preface in particular.
The update includes a look at SFPark, the highly technical implementation of Shoup's ideas of adjustable parking pricing. Smith thinks the program sounds great, but requires a lot of funding to implement.
On the whole, Smith says The High Cost of Free Parking "remains essential reading for anyone interested in the topic and arguably anyone concerned with cities, transportation, and urban design in general."
