Rubell was one of the principal collectors and exhibitors responsible for inculcating the emergent art scene in the Wynwood district near downtown Miami. She admires the neighborhood for its role as "the closest you can get to the edge in city."
However, the best city for artists remains Los Angeles, "where studio space is cheap, teaching jobs for artists are plenty, and the cultural and visual landscape is endlessly fascinating."
