Environmentalists and coastal management experts are calling attention to the negative impacts of urban growth and polluted runoff in coastal areas.
Several members of the Pew Oceans Commission met with environmentalists and coastal management experts in Oregon earlier this week to hear about the negative impacts of urban growth and polluted runoff in coastal areas. The coastal experts also shared with commission members recommendations on coastal planning, growth limits and coastal ecosystem improvements. The Pew Oceans Commission was formed last year to review scientific information on coastal issues and then to make recommendations to Congress in early 2002. The full commission will meet in New York in November to begin drafting its formal findings and suggestions.
