In the booming economy of the 1990s, spending by cities in Wisconsin increased by 54% according to a new study released by the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance.
"Reflecting the highly charged 1990s economy, Wisconsin cities taxed, spent and borrowed at a rate that doubled inflation over the last decade, according to a report that the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance released Thursday.From 1990 to 1999, yearly spending by Wisconsin cities increased 54.1%, debt service costs rose 62.8% and property tax revenue increased 56.3%."
