After five years of studies and public hearings, The Hillsborough County Area Regional Transit Authority voted to approve a plan to build a 20 mile light rail system.
HARTline voted Monday to approve the 20-mile, $950 million light rail system, which will connect Ybor City and downtown Tampa with the University of South Florida and the West Shore business district. The plan calls for construction to take 20 years. A referendum for a sales tax increase to cover the cost of the system has not been set, but the plan depends on voters approving the increase.
