New California Law Links Growth To Water Use

California has a new law that associates water-use planning with land-use planning for developments of over 500 units.

Governor Davis has signed a bill that requires developers to prove that there is enough water to supply subdivisions of over 500 units over the next 20 years, including during drought periods. This will require water agencies to provide long-term assessments. Some water agencies are not happy with their role in assessment, fearing that it will leave the agencies vulnerable to law suits.
