Cities Unprepared to Help Those in Need

A new report says that U.S. cities are lacking in preparation (and in funds) for providing food and shelter for those in need.

The report, from the U.S. Conference of Mayors, says that all but 4 of the 29 U.S. cities they surveyed had seen an increase in the need for emergency food assistance and homeless services:

"Unemployment led the list of causes of hunger cited by the survey cities, followed by poverty, low wages, and high housing costs."

"Across the survey cities, 27 percent of the people needing emergency food assistance did not receive it."
