After the destruction of some of its most significant architectural and cultural treasures, the City of Beverly Hills has finally adopted a historic preservation ordinance.
Martha Groves reports on the city's steps to recognize and protect its architectural heritage in a piece for the Los Angeles Times. "Beverly Hills Councilwoman Lili Bosse was among many who said the ordinance was long overdue. "For me, it was one of the most important nights in Beverly Hills history," she said in an e-mail."
However, of significance for one of the country's most historic and exclusive neighborhoods of the rich and famous, the ordinance prohibits historic designation based solely on who lived in a residence.
