After two years of intense planning, Delray Beach's efforts to approve a $36 million, 59 foot high, mixed-use redevelopment complex, with 219 units, 12,300 square feet of shopping and 207 parking spaces -- came to a grinding halt.
A team of Boca Raton-based attorneys filed three lawsuits to quash Worthing Place, one of the most ambitious city-backed redevelopment projects even planned, while another suit has been filed over the City's denial of the 70-room Vista Del Mar Hotel in the beach area. City officials said they were not concerned that the lawsuits would have major financial impacts but privately worried that the wrong message was being sent to future developers about the City's planning documents. In a city that still has large areas in need of redevelopment, reputation is everything.
