In Riverside County, California's fourth-fastest growing county, thousands of working poorlive in an estimated 400 illegal mobile home parks on the outskirts ofthe unincorporated eastern county. Jose Perez, president and cofounderof Social Justice Committee, is calling for the county to createaffordable housing for those who provide the backbone for the valley's$427 million agriculture industry. Meanwhile, the state is calling forthe county to build 12,232 housing units by 2005 - a number that housingadvocacy groups say is far too low. In response, the Riverside CountyPlanning Commission will hold a public hearing to address this complexhousing issue.
