Monorails: A Vision For The Future Of Transit

Are monorails amusement park curiosities, or legitimate forms of mass transit?

"Seattle's monorail, which was developed for the World's Fair in 1962 and continues to operate profitably, is one mile long with only two stations. It is more limited than the system the ETC is planning. We wanted to know if monorails are simply amusement park curiosities or if they are legitimate mass transit alternatives suitable for urban settings. We decided to visit Japan because it has nine operational monorails and is building a 10th that will begin system testing later this year. Many of Japan's monorails are high-capacity systems in urban settings."
