A report by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) examines the impact of transportation systems in developing and developed countries on economic development, social welfare and environmental quality.
"This report, titled 'Mobility 2001,'providea a 'snapshot' of worldwide mobility at the beginning of the 21st and identifies major threats to mobility's continued sustainability... It identifies the major threats to mobility's sustainability . Mobility 2001 covers both the developed and the developing world, all modes of transportation, and the movement of freight as well as the movement of persons." The report was commissioned by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and prepared by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Charles River Associates.
