In honor of St. Patrick's Day, Kaid Benfield profiles the sustainable practices of the most Irish of emblems, Guinness Beer.
While there may be little chance of finding a green pint of Guinness to go with your green eggs in celebration of today's holiday, there should be other reasons to proudly enjoy the black beverage according to Benfield.
Last year the brewer's green accomplishments at its Storehouse, the brewery's large and historic facility at St. James's Gate in Dublin, "received a three-star accreditation from Sustainable Travel International for its environmental commitment," writes Benfield.
Practices recognized by the award include measures to reduce waste, chemical use, and energy consumption; local food sourcing; and locally sourced construction materials.
So, as you enjoy your rich black pint, you can be proud that Guinness is green in ways that count.
