Boston transit officials are considering offering car-sharing services for residents seeking an alternative to owning a vehicle.
"The pilot program, to begin shortly, will make the MBTA the second major transit authority in the nation to offer subway riders the opportunity to rent a car on an hourly basis right at a station. Washington, D.C.'s Metro began doing so in September with Flexcar, a Seattle-based company... Typically, car-sharing companies charge drivers a small fee to enroll, and then hourly fees of $5 to $10, plus miles."
