A former Gerber Plant in Ashville, NC, will be redeveloped under new zoning into a New Urbanist development featuring mixed use buildings, pedestrian orientation, and public/private joint partnerships.
"The plan is based on the 'new urbanism' approach to development. The Village at Gerber will include a street grid throughout the property with wide sidewalks, giving it the downtown feeling so prevalent of the new urbanism genre of development.All buildings will be low-rise, between two and four stories tall, with retail and commercial space on the ground floor, and on-street parallel parking."
