In an unprecedented step, Los Angeles County is cracking down on urban runoff with unusually strict new rules.
Los Angeles County adopted strict new urban runoff cleanup rules that will require the county and 84 of its cities to inspect local businesses for pollutants and illegal discharges that get swept by storm water into Santa Monica and San Pedro bays. The Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board votedunanimously to adopt the five-year plan. A third of the 84 cities affected by the new regulations had opposed the plan, calling it "too expensive, onerous and illegal."
