Catellus Development Corp. has suspended construction at the highly-touted Mission Bay campus.
"The highly-touted Mission Bay campus, sandwiched between Townsend and Mariposa streets, is supposedly the crowning achievement of Mayor Willie Brown's reign, slated for 6,000 units of housing, generous retail space, office space and UCSF's biotechnology research center... When prospective tenant Marchfirst filed for bankruptcy, Catellus was left without a tenant to fill the prospective office space. Add to that the flailing economy after Sept. 11 and the project's prospects are no longer gleaming."
