Miami is as much an industry town as Detroit or Washington D.C. Rather than cars or government, what drives culture (and innovation) in Miami is the city's nightlife scene, explains Emily Badger.
With much of its economy based on nightlife and entertainment, it's no wonder that technological innovation in these sectors is originating with startups based in the Magic City.
Badger describes the ways in which the city's entrepreneurs are, "changing everything from how managers run their sprawling venues and how
promoters prove their value, to how average partiers get in as VIPs and
even how bouncers check for subtly doctored fake IDs. One company has
created a CareerBuilder for nightlife jobs, another has released a smartphone app for buying your friends drinks--when they're sitting in a different bar."
